Planet candidate · Rigil Kentaurus
Alpha Centauri A "S1" (candidate)
Orbit2 AU
Year2.5 years
Mass~120 M⊕
Temperature~225 K (estimated)
A possible giant planet imaged by the James Webb Space Telescope in August 2024. Follow-up images in February and April 2025 did not recover it, so it remains unconfirmed.
If real, it would be a gas giant of roughly 90 to 150 Earth masses in the star's habitable zone; its orbit here is approximate.
